Emme L. Hines, Director
Ms. Hines is a graduate of Converse College in Spartanburg, SC where she received her bachelor's degree in Instrumental Music Education. Prior to Converse, she was a graduate of James F. Byrnes High School where she marched with the award winning Rebel Regiment and performed in the top ensembles. She is currently working on her Masters Degree in Music Education at the University of West Georgia.
Emme L. Hines has been the band director at Washington Wilkes for seven years. Prior to WW, she was the Assistant Band Director at Thomson High School in Thomson, GA for ten years, where she taught Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, 9th Grade Band and 6th Grade Band. Prior to coming to Thomson, Ms. Hines served as band director at Hartsville Junior High School in Hartsville, S.C. She has studied conducting with Dr. Paul G. Davis, Dr. John P. Lynch and Dr. Robert Ambrose. Bands under her direction have consistently received Excellent and Superior ratings at State Festivals. Ms. Hines has also consistently had students selected to participate in Region, District, and All State Band. She is a member of NAfME, GMEA, WBDA, and serves as the Band Chair for GMEA District 10. Ms. Hines resides in Thomson, GA with her dogs Molly, Jama, and Fritz.
Ms. Hines has a very extensive background in performance as well. She has served as principal oboist for Savannah River Winds out of Augusta, the Augusta Players, various gigs throughout the year, and has performed with The Ray Charles Orchestra.
Tara Townsend, Color Guard Instructor
Tara Townsend is a graduate of Silver Creek High School in Sellersburg, IN. She started in band in the 4th grade playing the flute. In 8th Grade, she discovered the colorguard. She was hooked. She studied Communications at Indiana University while marching colorguard with The Marching Hundred. It was an awesome experience marching at college football games. She graduated from IU in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications.
She married Chris Townsend in May of 1995. They have lived in Gastonia, NC and Virginia Beach, VA before moving to Washington, GA in December of 1999. She became the Auxiliary Coordinator for the 2000-2001 season for the Marching Tiger Band. She served as Coordinator for 10 years with the Auxiliaries getting top honors. After taking 4 years off to be with her family, she is back to work with the colorguard. She is excited to be back with the Marching Tiger Band for the 2015-2016 season.
She lives in Washington, with her husband, Chris and boys, Garston & Henry.
Demario Gresham, Percussion Instructor
Demario Gresham was born January 29, 1991 at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. His father and mother are Silas and Rosemary Gresham. He went to school at Washington Wilkes where he participated in the Tiger Band as a percussionist for four years. He graduated with his class of 2009. Through his childhood, he loved playing the drums. As a result, he played drums for various choirs and groups. After graduating, he began playing for "The Anointed Believers" from Athens and they recorded a CD where he was the drummer. He has traveled to various states performing with professional gospel groups as the sit-in drummer. Also, he teaches drumset lessons for students of all ages. For two years, he has worked with the Washington Wilkes Comprehensive High School Tiger Band drumline.
